Thank you dear friends of Gordon Lage for your many kind expressions of sympathy in his untimely death.  Gordon had an undiagnosed heart condition, which made its deadly appearance while he enjoyed his usual walk on the beautiful paths near his home in Santee (San Diego, CA).

Gordon was born on January 7, 1938 in Utica, Michigan outside of Detroit.  He moved to Roseville, Michigan when he was six years old.  At a young age Gordon learned to shoot. He started with a BB gun and then went on to become Michigan State Indoor Rifle Champion.  His talent was obvious by all the trophies he won throughout his life.  He excelled in every sport in which he participated, winning trophies for swimming, ping-pong, tennis, bowling, and golf.  However, his true passion from the beginning to the end was always shooting.  Gordon attended Roseville High School and graduated with the class of 1956.  He then went on to drafting school.  In 1960 Gordon moved to sunny California.  He worked for General Dynamics and became a Senior Engineer retiring at age 50.  Following his retirement he moved to Santee, California where he spent the remainder of his life doing the things he enjoyed.

He loved both shooting and his Corvette almost more than life itself.  Shooting was a social connection to the world and gave his life meaning and many years of joy.

Gordon gave the appearance of being a "loner" but in the last few days so many people have expressed how much his friendship has meant to them and how much he will be missed.

Gordon's brother, Harold Lage, has seven children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. They loved to hear stories as did my daughters Nancy and Pamela, about their Uncle G as Gordon was known.

If you wish to add your story or words to the collection, you can send them to me either by email
norma@coolerking.com or snail mail at P.O. Box 21066, Carson City, Nevada 89721.  May happy memories of Gordon replace the sadness in your heart.

"Gordon was a great friend to me and to shooting.  He will be missed by my family and me.  He will always be remembered as the quiet one, with a smile for everyone.  He walked everyday for his health.  I think I will start drinking, smoking, eating all the fat and bad things possible and swearing to keep on living!!!! Good health seems to be killing the good people.  Why the hell be good."

"Gordon was one of the first people I met at Miramar Gun Club. He was always warm and friendly and never critical. Of all the people there he was the most helpful as I tackled the new sport, for me, of clay target shooting. I miss Gordon and his congenial supporting presence."
