Before
the class, please make sure the Scout has read the merit badge
pamphlet available at BSA headquarters, 1207 Upas Street,
San Diego, CA 92103. The Scout must bring the pamphlet and
his blue card to the sessions.
Any registered Boy Scout is eligible to participate, but we
recommend that boys be at least 13 years old, and rated 1st
Class and above. |
The SAN DIEGO Shotgun Sports Association waives
the non-member day use fee for Boy Scouts who shoot in an organized event. Also, a ½ price discount
is offered for the cost of shooting a round (25 targets) of skeet
or trap. The usual cost is $6 a round; but Boy Scouts shoot for
only $4.00 per round. SDSSA provides eye protection without charge
and reusable hearing protection at $.50. Ammunition is available
at $5.00 per box. Plan on spending a total of $19 per day per boy.
To receive the reduced fees the Scout must be in an organized BSA event and have a current BSA
card.
Please do not bring your own guns or ammunition without
the prior permission of the Program Chair, Bennett (Biff) Ellington.
We require that at least one parent of the boys attending
be present at all times.
Other Youth Groups: For children not involved with
Boy Scouts, we also offer NRA shotgun instructions. This program
is very similar to the Boy Scout Merit Badge course. Upon completion,
an NRA certificate is awarded.
Costs are the same as for Boy Scout classes, except the NRA Basic
Shotgun book is used instead of the merit badge pamphlet. The cost
of this book and related supplies is $10. The books will be available
when the class first meets.
