SCHOLASTIC CLAY TARGET PROGRAM

SAN DIEGO Shotgun Sports Association offers students the opportunity to participate in a national trapshooting program designed specifically for them.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a national program administered by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) in affiliation with the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA).

The Program Goals are:
To teach safe and responsible handling and use of firearms.
To develop amateur athletes for national and international shotgun competitions.
To build character and citizenship through teamwork.
To encourage participation in a lifetime sport that families can enjoy.
The SCTP trapshooting program at SAN DIEGOShotgun Sports is embarking on its sixth year. Our students fall into two groups:
Those who want to compete at the highest levels
Those who wish to improve their recreational shooting skills.
SCTP is a team sport with shooters placed in 5-man squads

Academic Performance
Team members must maintain a passing grade at their schools
Eligibility for SCTP ends with high school graduation or at age 20

Schedule
Our 2009 SCTP target-year is November 2008 through July 2009
Our team offers regular practice sessions supervised by certified coaches.

Competitions
SCTP students may shoot at monthly ATA competitions.
Several SCTP competitions are held each year.
The State Championship is held in Kingsburg, CA in June

All team members, coaches, parents and everyone connected with SCTP must obey safety rules and properly conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen at all SCTP functions. Each participant and a responsible parent must sign a personal conduct agreement as well as an SCTP consent form.

General
Quality guns are available for loan at the range.
Members of our state competition squads will be chosen based on their scoring records, attendance, and conduct as team players.
SCTP awards are presented to the top teams in each division at regional, state and national competitions. Individual awards are also presented at many competitions.
Participants are responsible for providing their own shooting glasses ear protection and shooting vests. Team hats will be provided.
