SCHOLASTIC CLAY TARGET PROGRAM
SAN DIEGO Shotgun Sports Association offers students the opportunity to participate in a national trapshooting program designed specifically for them.
The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a national program administered by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) in affiliation with the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA). |
The Program Goals are: |

To teach safe and responsible handling and use of firearms. |

To develop amateur athletes for national and international shotgun competitions. |
 |
To build character and citizenship through teamwork. |
 |
To encourage participation in a lifetime sport that families can enjoy. |
| The SCTP trapshooting program at SAN DIEGOShotgun Sports is embarking on its sixth year. Our students fall into two groups: |

Those who want to compete at the highest levels |
 |
Those who wish to improve their recreational shooting skills. |
| SCTP is a team sport with shooters placed in 5-man squads |
Academic Performance |
 |
Team members must maintain a passing grade at their schools |
 |
Eligibility for SCTP ends with high school graduation or at age 20 |
Schedule |
 |
Our 2009 SCTP target-year is November 2008 through July 2009 |
 |
Our team offers regular practice sessions supervised by certified coaches. |
Competitions |
 |
SCTP students may shoot at monthly ATA competitions. |
 |
Several SCTP competitions are held each year. |
 |
The State Championship is held in Kingsburg, CA in June |
Classification |
| Students will be placed in one of the following divisions: |
 |
Rookie - grades 5 and under only. |
 |
Intermediate - Grades 6 - 8 only.
Entry Level Intermediate – 1st yr participating in the Intermediate Division Advanced Intermediate – 2nd or 3rd yr participating in the Intermediate Division |

Senior Division - Grades 9 - 12 only.
Junior Varsity – 1st year participating in the Senior Division. Varsity Division – 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year participating in the Senior Division. |

Cost |
 |
Currently there is no fee for joining SCTP. However, there is an annual $9.00 ATA fee and a $7.00 California Golden State Trapshooters Association fee for those who wish to compete. SCTP members pay a reduced price for targets -- $4.00 for each round of 25 targets. Shells cost from $5.00 to $7.00 for each box of 25. Weekly practices normally involve 2 rounds of 25 targets. |
Conduct at the Range |
 |
All team members, coaches, parents and everyone connected with SCTP must obey safety rules and properly conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen at all SCTP functions. Each participant and a responsible parent must sign a personal conduct agreement as well as an SCTP consent form. |
General |
 |
Quality guns are available for loan at the range. |
 |
Members of our state competition squads will be chosen based on their scoring records, attendance, and conduct as team players. |
 |
SCTP awards are presented to the top teams in each division at regional, state and national competitions. Individual awards are also presented at many competitions. |
 |
Participants are responsible for providing their own shooting glasses ear protection and shooting vests. Team hats will be provided. |
 |
